An-Najah News - The temporary death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck southwestern Haiti rose to 1,419 dead and more than 7,000 injured.

The Haitian Civil Protection Directorate said the earthquake, which measured 7.2 on the Richter scale, destroyed more than 37,000 homes.

Rescue teams continued searching under the rubble, in scenes that brought back painful memories of the devastating earthquake that hit in 2010.

The southwestern region of Haiti was the region most affected by the earthquake, especially the city of Les Cayes.
