An-Najah News - Egypt is planning to cultivate 3.5 million feddans of wheat to produce about 9.5 million tons, said head of the Egyptian Farmers’ Syndicate Hussein Abdelrahman Abu Saddam in a statement on Monday.

He added that the average production per feddan of wheat is 2.7 tons, noting that what has actually been cultivated so far is about 3 million feddans.

“The government spare no effort to reduce the gap between production and consumption of wheat as we import approximately 10 million tons annually,” he said. “It also encourages farmers to change agricultural and irrigation methods in a way that serves the operations of increasing production,” he added.

The season of wheat cultivation in Egypt starts from September-October, to be harvested in April-May annually.
