An-Najah News -  The city police department of Vienna said several people have been injured in central Vienna amid exchanges of fire.

“Shots fired in the Inner City district – there are persons injured – KEEP AWAY from all public places or public transport,” read the tweet by the police on Monday.

Police added that the exact circumstances of the incident were still being determined.

One of the attackers was killed and that another is believed to be on the run.

Austrian public broadcaster ORF reported the police operation was ongoing at a synagogue.

The head of Austria’s Jewish community said on Twitter that it was not clear whether the synagogue or adjoining offices were targets of the shooting as they were closed at the time of the incident.
