An-Najah News - Agencies - On Tuesday, Egypt sent medical equipment to the United States to help it combat the COVID-19 pandemic, as the office of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi published a video clip showing boxes containing writings in English and Arabic “From the Egyptian people to the American people” loaded on a military cargo plane.
The plane landed at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, said Democratic Rep., Duch Robertburger, an official on the House and Senate committee that promotes relations with Egypt.
Robertsberger noted that the plane transported about two hundred thousand masks and 48 thousand protective covers for shoes. He wrote in a tweet on Twitter: “This is the reason why international diplomacy and maintaining relations with allies like Egypt are essential, not only in a time of crisis, but every day.”
The American ambassador in Cairo, Jonathan Cohen, welcomed the shipment, which he described as “generous.”
In return, sending this aid has drawn widespread criticism in Egypt, where a third of the population lives at $ 1.5 or less per day.
In Egypt, the World Health Organization recorded 250 deaths and 3,300 infections with Corona virus, while the United States recorded as of Tuesday, 45,000 deaths.
Egypt is a long-time strategic ally of the United States, whose military aid to Cairo amounts to about $1.3 billion a year.
