An-Najah News - A specialized medical team from An-Najah National University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah National University, led by Dr. Qusay Abdoh, Consultant Gastroenterologist & Transplant Hepatologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University's Faculty of Medicine, published a review article in the Palestinian Medical and Pharmaceutical Journal (PMPJ).
The article discusses and addresses the dilemma of how to deal with gastroenterological procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic, to decide which procedures can or cannot be postponed based on current international available data. As well as, to ensure the continuation of the essential management of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) patients, many of whom are on immunosuppressive and biologic agents, thus, making the decisions about which medications the patient can stay on to prevent disease attacks. Finally, the review includes studying the hepatic manifestations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, it presents local recommendations that can serve as a guide for managing liver diseases during COVID-19 and when to go to liver transplantation with the least risk possible for viral transmission.
It is worth mentioning that the research team included Amer Asia, Mo'tasem Dweekat, and Alaa Dweikat from the Department of Internal Medicine, An-Najah National University Hospital as well as Shadi khilfeh from the Department of Internal Medicine and the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Endoscopy, An-Najah National University Hospital and the Department of Medicine, Faculty of medicine and health Sciences, An-Najah National University.
