Chile slammed Israel over its plans to annex parts of the West Bank, describing it as a dangerous step with unpredictable consequences pertaining to a just and peaceful solution to the conflict, said Chilean Foreign Minister, Teodoro Ribera, affirming the Israeli plans would hinder any peace settlement on the basis of a two-state solution based on United Nations Resolutions.
Ribera confirmed in a letter to Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riad al-Malki, the government of Chile is following with great interest and concern the impending Israeli annexation plans, emphasizing his country’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian issue based on International Law and United Nations Resolutions.
The Minister reiterated Chile’s call to respect Security Council resolution 242 of 22 November 1967.
Ribera stressed that the government of Chile supports all efforts exerted toward achieving a durable peace, respect and recognizing the right of both states to exist in peace within secure and recognized borders, calling to create opportunities for good-faith dialogue and resuming negotiations for the well-being of both peoples.
