An-Najah News - Ramallah - The Palestine Reserves website said that the Palestinian families monitored 8918 birds from the houses within a week, with the participation of 1251 bird monitors from the families.
The website said in a statement today, Sunday, that it is the first time that it occurs in Palestine that birds are monitored and documented by society, which reflects the Palestinian awareness of the importance of bird conservation.
The Palestine Reserves indicated that the results of the competition (the largest number of birds from the garden and balcony of the house) reflect the Palestinian environmental reality. The presence of birds is an indication of environmental safety, as the competition numbers can be used for research and environmental studies.
The results showed that the most common birds types around the houses are the Passer, the laughing dove, the Common Myna, the hooded crow, and the Palestinian sunbird, while some invasive birds were found in some Palestinian areas by a percentage parallel to the birds residing in the Palestinian territories, which requires government intervention to limit the spread of invasive birds and preserving the indigenous birds in our country.
The event comes, according to the statement, under the supervision of the Palestine Protected Areas website team and in partnership with the Environmental Quality Authority and with the support of the German Hans Seidel Foundation, and in completion of the environmental awareness project with the Environmental Quality Authority, which was halted due to the Corona pandemic last February.
