An-Najah News - A Palestinian programmer develops a coronavirus testing application

Nablus – The coronavirus pandemic and its outbreak in the world in general and Palestine in particular, has stimulated creative minds to search for a vaccine for the deadly virus. Mahmoud Abu Ghosh, from the Gaza Strip, invented a programme to diagnose the virus through radiation for the chest area and the lung region using algorithms, artificial intelligence by collecting images of infected people from around the world - 70,000 pictures around the world of people with the virus and 45,000 people with pneumonia.

He explained – when any image is entered into this programme, the application will search for similar images from previously uploaded images and compare them to reveal points of similarity or difference and determine if they are infected or not infected.

He pointed that he got in contact with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and it is possible to have cooperation to use this program to detect infections as quickly as possible. Noting that the programme was tested in quarantine centers in Italy, the success rate was good, the accuracy rate was high and the diagnosis was made in an instantaneous manner, with results appearing immediately.

And on the accuracy of the results of the programme, Abu Ghosh explained that the results and their accuracy differ because the virus differs in intensity from one person to another, especially because when it is transmitted from one person to another, its ferocity increases in the person to whom the virus was transmitted and it is a male virus which affects males more than females, in addition to the immunity of people that differ from one person to another, however, the results are estimated to be 88% accurate for the total number of tests diagnosed through this program.
