An-Najah News - A Palestinian prisoner sets himself on fire in Nafha prison today, Wednesday, to protest over the occupation prison’s administration neglection of the prisoners’ health, according to the director of the Commission of Detainees and ex-Detainees Affairs, Qadri Abu Baker.

There’s extreme tension now in Nafha prison after the prisoner’s attempt to burn himself by burning files and items in one of the administration facilities in the prison, as a sign of protesting over the occupation prisons’ administration current measures, and the absence of any preventive measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, he added.

The occupation prisons administration stated that the prisoner who attempted to light himself up was sent to Soroka Medical Center in Negev, and he is stable. However, they didn’t provide any information of his health condition or the degree of burn. Moreover, the Commission got in contact with his family and informed her of the incident, Abu Baker said.

The prisoner is Al Sharbati and he is sentenced for life, and has been imprisoned since 22 years.

Abu Baker furtherly said that the prisons’ administration has only kept one nurse in each prison and there are no longer doctors or more nurses there.
