An-Najah News - Over the past 24 hours, the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy has dealt with more than 100 complaints received from citizens since the publication of the price list for basic commodities.

The complaints were about the high prices of some items, particularly oil.

The report indicated that there was exaggeration from citizens to purchase goods despite the fact that the shops will remain open, and in light of the availability of sufficient supply stocks to cover all the citizens’ needs.

The Ministry’s daily report that was issued today, Monday, was distributed on the shops and published for the public through media to inform all citizens of the prices under penalty of legal responsibility.

In its report, the Ministry drew attention to the closure of a vegetable store in Salfit because it exploited the conditions by raising the prices in an exaggerated way, which led to the arrest of its owner based on Salfit governor’s decision, in addition to notifying a number of shops that did not put price tag on its goods.

The Ministry furtherly stated in its report that, according to Article 2 of the amended Consumer Protection Law No. (27) of 2018, anyone who refuses to put price lists for goods or services they offer in visible locations or violates the pricing declared will be imprisoned for a period of no less than six months and not exceeding a year and with a fine that shall be less than one thousand Jordanian dinars, and no more than ten thousand Jordanian dinars, or the equivalent thereof, in the legally used currency.

According to the ministry, monopolizing, concealing, or deceiving goods and violating the pricing announced by the official authorities or exploiting the official prices to achieve illegal or personal gains is prohibited.

Whoever violates this shall be imprisoned for a period not exceeding one year and with a fine that shall be not less than three thousand Jordanian dinars and no more than twenty thousand Jordanian dinars, or equivalent.
