An-Najah News - A study that was published by MedRxiv for research with the cooperation of Northwestern university, showed a correlation between sever vitamin D deficiency and the death rates by coronavirus.

The research team analyzed the statistical data from hospitals and clinics around China, Europe, and the United States. They noticed that the patients in countries such as, Spain, Italy, and Britain that have the highest death rates, had a vitamin D deficiency compared to the countries that were not that severly affected by the virus.

through analyzing publicly available data from different places in the world, Backman and his team discovered a strong connection between vitamin D levels and cytokine - a hyperinflammatory condition caused by an overactive ammune system - in addition to a link between vitamin D deficiency and the death rates.

The research pointed out that vitamin D not only play a role in improving our innate immune system but also preventing it from being dangerously overactive.

Backman, the Walter Dill scott Professor of Biomedical Engineering said that: "While I think it's important for people to know that vitamin D deficiency might play a role in mortality, however, we don't need to push vitamin D on everybody".

He continued: "This needs further study, and I hope our work will stimulate interest in this area."
