An-Najah News - Research has shown that the risk of children dying from the emerging coronavirus will increase if COVID-19 disease is combined with another rare disease.
On Tuesday, British Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, announced that some children without major health problems had died of a rare inflammatory syndrome, which researchers believe is linked to COVID-19 disease.
The rare syndrome that the British minister spoke of is Kawasaki's Disease; a rare disease that affects children under the age of five.
This disease is characterized by acute inflammation in the vessels of unknown origin. Symptoms of the disease include fever, rash, eye inflammation, redness of the pharynx and oral cavity, swelling of the palms of the hands and feet, and enlarged lymph nodes in the neck.
According to the Mayo Clinic website, Kawasaki disease is sometimes called mucous lymph node syndrome, as it also affects glands that swell during infection (lymph nodes), skin and mucous membranes in the mouth, nose and throat.
