An-Najah News - Nablus - Scientist Yaron Eugen from the Martin Luther University in Germany discovered a relationship between nitrogen dioxide-polluted air and the corona virus’s death rate.

ScienceDirect says that the study conducted by Eugene was based on air pollution data from satellites, weather monitoring data, and death statistics due to corona virus.

The scientist Eugene compared these indicators in Italy, France, Spain and Germany, and reached a conclusion that the level of deaths is particularly high in areas where air pollution has been observed during a long period, along with poor ventilation in the areas surrounded by mountains, where the air remains stable, and the level of pollution with harmful substances is higher.

The presence of nitrogen dioxide in the air leads to many respiratory system and cardiovascular diseases. Since the emerging corona virus infects the respiratory system, it allows to assume that there is a link between air pollution and mortality with the emerging corona virus, according to Eugene.

This study can be done on specific regions, because the average indicators in countries can differ significantly from the average in the regions.

The scientist pointed out that new studies and analyzes are necessary to uncover additional factors such as age and the presence of other diseases or conditions preceding them.
