An-Najah News - Nablus - It turns out that not only humans can change their facial expressions. The researchers say mice can do that too. Not only have that, but the results of researches proved that these animals have a full repertoire of facial expressions.
“Mice show facial expressions of their feelings," said Nadine Gogula, co-author of a research from the Max Planck Institute for Neuroscience. The researcher explained that the results are important because they offer researchers new ways to measure the intensity of the emotional response which can help them explore how emotions appear in the brain.
For example, the mouse's ears lie backward and move the position of the lower jaw and nose when the tail is under pressure. To further examine these expressions, the team resorted to computer techniques that extract the differences between the images. According to the British newspaper “the Guardian”, the program revealed clear differences between the images of mice taken before, and taken after applying each irritant to the mouse.
