An-Najah News - Agencies – The United Kingdom’s scientists have recently developed a smart device that will help in testing coronavirus in a very short time, according to Lancaster University website.

Researchers from Brunel University, London, Lancaster University and University of Surrey, using artificial intelligence, image processing, molecular virology and their experience in technologies, have developed a device that is able to detect coronavirus in thirty minutes only.

The researchers believe that this device will help in controlling the outbreak, and to stop it from spreading further, as the device can be used by nurses, biomedical scientists, doctors, and even ordinary people. This will help them isolate themselves at home and to not infect other people around them.

“The device shall be ready in three or four weeks,” said Brunel University.

“We believe that with our expertise we will be able to make this device ready for adoption in only few weeks,” said Molecular Virologist, Dr Muhammad Munir at Lancaster University.

The device works on battery, and can be held in the hand just like a smart phone, it will be easy to use and will only cost 100 pounds. The device works by taking nasal or throat swabs which are tested by the device, and in only 30 minutes, the result will be ready. The device can test up to six people at once.

The idea behind developing this device is to help in reducing the speed of the pandemic spread, and to provide a cheaper test for people in order for it to be used at home all over the world. The interesting thing about the device is that once it detects that someone has the virus, it will alert all people who the patient had been in contact with in the last 14 days that they may have the virus, and will advise them on what to do.

“The team working on this device believes in the importance of both detecting the virus quickly, and minimizing the spread of the virus,” said Dr Anil Fernando, University of Surrey.
