An-Najah News - Ramallah - The League of Arab States called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to appeal to the Israeli occupation to review its positions and policies, and to take an immediate decision, by launching batches of prisoners who are at greatest risk of corona virus, in order to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, confirmed in a message he directed to the Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Robert Mardini, on the gravity of the situation, which is faced by about (5) thousand Palestinian prisoners in the occupation prisons, in light of the outbreak of the pandemic in the occupation state, according to the newspaper (the seventh day).
He warned against the danger of the outbreak of the corona virus among Palestinian detainees in the occupation prisons, pointing out that among the Palestinian prisoners, a large number of the elderly, the sick and those with low immunity are the most vulnerable groups, and are at a serious risk in the face of the corona virus.
In his letter, he criticized the decision taken by the occupation authorities to release some criminal prisoners from their citizens, while excluding Palestinian prisoners, which violates the standards of humanity and the rules of international law in protecting the rights of prisoners at a time of pandemic outbreaks.
