An-Najah News - Nablus - The Palestinian doctor at the San Marco Hospital in Italy, Talal Soufan, who works as an anesthetist and lives in Italy, where there is an outbreak, said that it has been observed that the virus causes a large deficiency in respiratory functions and thus rely heavily in this case on the resuscitation and anesthesiologist.

Speaking of how the virus spread in Italy, he pointed out that the main reason was due to recklessness, as it was believed that the virus is a Chinese problem that affects those who eat bats and snakes and thus people did not give it that importance.

“The northern region where the outbreak started as it is an open area that is open for industry and trade, and the Italian people continued to practice their normal lives and sport matches continued,” he said in an interview with An-Najah News.

“Italy is one of the industrialized and developed countries, especially in the medical aspect, but the overcrowding of hospitals with corona patients was about to lead Italy to a collapse, as there was a shortage of equipment and medicines, especially in the anesthesia and recovery departments, including medicines, respirators, and oxygen bags, as well as a lack of clothing and protective equipment for the medical bar Masks, clothing and cloves,” he added.

Speaking about the procedures in Palestine, Soufan pointed out that the situation in Palestine is disturbing because the medical capabilities in Palestine are not as the European countries’, so it is necessary to adhere to the home quarantine, especially young people. The virus is deadly for those over 45 years old, and for people with chronic diseases.

Concerning some companies that say they developed a vaccine/drug to treat coronavirus, he emphasized that the drug used from the beginning of this pandemic is the same and there is no treatment yet for the corona virus, and discovering a drug for coronavirus may take months or years.

Soufan stressed the need to follow Palestinian health guidelines and adhere to the home quarantine.
