An-Najah News - An-Najah National University is among the Top 500 Universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings
The Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. An-Najah National University was the only Palestinian university to reign in this ranking among the top 500 world universities. At the Arab level, only one Jordanian university, and four universities from the Saudi Arabia have made it to the list of the top 500 universities across the world.
Prof. Maher Natsheh, University President, said that he is very proud of these remarkable results as the University always aspires to maintain and advance its academic progress, reputation, and distinction among Palestinian, Arab, and international universities, especially in the world rankings.
Prof. Natsheh stated that An-Najah is a research-based University, focusing on improving the quality of education and research in our region and the rest of the world. He added that our distinguished academics, students and staff always diligently pursue innovative solutions to the world’s great challenges.
This year’s rankings included more than 1,600 universities from 99 countries and territories, making them the largest and most diverse world university rankings.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are the only global performance tables which judge research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfers and international outlook. It is based on a methodology which includes an analysis of 14.4 million research publications, a survey of 22,000 academics around the world, and data on teaching and research – a record of 1,662 universities from 99 countries and regions appear in the table.
The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment), Research (volume, income and reputation), Citations (research influence), International outlook (staff, students and research), and Industry income (knowledge transfer).
Prof. Natsheh acknowledged the efforts made by the researchers, students and staff of An-Najah who all worked hard and excelled in all their pursuits to achieve this great success.
He stressed that the University made many achievements during the academic year 2020/2021. The most important was being first university in Palestine and the 75th in the Middle East according to the SCImago Institutions Rankings. Also, the first and leading Palestinian university according to the QS University Rankings, and the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.
He added that the University was ranked among top 8 universities in Asia for the Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year at the 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) Awards, known as the Oscars for higher education.
“These world rankings are solid evidence of An-Najah’s commitment to excellence, research, innovation, and the highest standards in our education," Prof. Natsheh said.
The University has recently received the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education Accreditation for ten new PhD, master’s and bachelor’s programs, including a new PhD Program in Sports, a dental bachelor's program, and cosmetics and skin care bachelor's program.
Prof. Natsheh thanked the Chair of the University Board of Trustees, HE Mr. Sabih Al-Masri, the Board's Vice Chair, HE Prof. Rami Hamdallah, and the Board's members for their consistent support to achieve this remarkable success.
Prof. Abdel Naser Zaid, University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, expressed his pride of the new ranking which is the result of University’s hard work and consistent efforts to develop and promote scientific research and higher education. He added that he is certain that the university will achieve more academic progress and other global accomplishments in the future.
