An-Najah News - US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris considered the election of Joe Biden a "clear message to test hope, unity, dignity, science and true freedom."
She emphasized that Biden's team "will begin the real and necessary work to save lives from the Corona pandemic and combat racism."
Referring to her selection as the first woman to hold the second-highest position in the United States, Harris said, "Biden removed the biggest obstacle in our country by choosing a woman as vice president."
In a brief speech she gave shortly before John Biden gave his victory speech, Harris added that American democracy "is not a given, but rather the struggle to guard and preserve it."
Biden's victory speech did not include details about the new administration's policy toward the Middle East, but Harris announced earlier that the new administration would take immediate steps toward the Palestinian people that would nullify decisions taken by the Trump administration.
"We will take immediate steps to restore economic and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and work to reopen the office of the Palestine Liberation Organization mission in Washington," she added.
"We are committed to the two-state solution, and we will oppose any unilateral steps that undermine this goal, and we will also oppose Israeli annexation and settlement expansion," she said in an interview published on polling day on the third of October.
