An-Najah News - Canada said Tuesday that it supports the two-state solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and rejects Israeli annexation of West Bank territory as contrary to international law.

The Canadian postion was declared during in a telephone conversation between Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Malki and his Canadian counterpart, Francois Philippe Champagne, who indicated that his country has expressed this position against the annexation plan to the Israeli prime minister and foreign minister.

Champagne told Malki that if Canada is elected as a member of the United Nations Security Council, it will not remain silent, but rather it will speak out for peace and stability in the Middle East, and that Canada will work with the Palestinian and Israeli parties to achieve the desired peace.

Malki, on the other hand, stressed the need for Canada to continue to exert pressure on Israel to prevent it from carrying out the annexation plan even if this leads to the threat of taking action against it, including sanctions.

The two ministers also discussed bilateral relations, which they expressed desire to develop, as well as the coronavirus pandemic and means to fight it.
